Lewis Hicks (Cuba Gooding Jr.) is a reporter and journalist specializing in writing about the crime of murder. A ferry filled with crewmen from the USS Nimitz and their families was blown up in New Orleans on Mardi Gras. In New Orleans, the lawyer Emily Parker meets the handsome Billy Hytner by chance; they date and fall immediately in love for each other.
